Too often, beginning and intermediate golfers try and copy the swings of the pros. This isn't a good idea, because the pros have hit so many thousands of balls that they can make subtle changes to their swings to achieve more power, more spin on the ball, or an intentional fade or draw. Tiger Woods, for example, utilizes a very late wrist uncock which results in more power and longer drives for him, but would most likely result in an errant drive if a beginner did it. The best swing for a novice golfer is a nice smooth, easy swing with very little or no wrist cocking/uncocking, a smooth weight transfer from back to front foot and a full body turn and follow through.

You have a bunch of information to plow through from other answerers so when you have ingested all of that and become thoroughly confused go back to the basics. Develop a consistent swing plane. This involves taking your stance ,placing the ball in the same position for each club you choose. Making a back swing which follows a consistent pattern, repeating that pattern on the downswing and follow through and finishing with your belt buckle ( or belly button) facing the intended flight of your ball. Remember, swing through the ball, not at the ball.

I've given hundreds, maybe thousands of golf lessons. If you are shooting high 90's I promise you have fundamentals to improve far ahead of swing plane. I never talk swing plane in a golf lesson. (I may fix swing plane thru another avenue. ) Don't listen to all your buddies who are likely not knowledgable to help you. Get a lesson with a good instructor. He will likely focus on more core fundamentals. I call it chapter 1 stuff. grip, alignment, stance, ball position, posture. etc. I have rarely given a lesson to a student who had all their chapter 1 stuff in place but were still struggling with their game. Good luck.

Kaz is a guy. Looks to be early teens. Black kinda spiky hair, normally wearing red and black robes.

He is a member of the Lu Clan, and the host vessel of the King of Darkness. When the King of Darkness entered him, Kaz's lover sacrificed herself to prevent the King of Darkness from completely taking over. But the King of Darkness then took all of Kaz's personal memories, and only gives them back when Kaz's plays Pangya (because the evil Mystical Phoenix Ball Kaz uses help give the King of Darkness power when it goes in a hole). This is the plan for the King of Darkness to gain enough power to take over Kaz and rule the world.

Kaz is unlockable, but is considered a secret character. To get him, you must beat the entire King of Darkness story arc in Arin's Pangya Festa. It's the one all the way at the bottom.

I have used one before and I think it really helps with tempo, especially the transfer at the top of your swing. It will definately help your swing, if you have a traditional type swing. If you tend to swing a little flat, you will have trouble with the Medicus. It "forces" you to swing upright and one a single plane.

I was in the same exact situation with you. I couldn't decide on a coach. It took me a while to decide but once I picked, I was very happy with my choice. Now, me and him are good friends.
It is completely up to you. It is your choice. But, if I was in your sistuation I would go with Mel. He sounds like he knows what is best for you and he wants to start off running and get right to working on this and that, while Dan doesn't even want to use the club yet. You didn't say anything negative about Mel... which is really good. Bases on your description, Mel seems like the kind of guy that you can easily negotiate with and he will support you. Dan sounds like the guy that likes to push people, and in golf that is never a good thing.. trust me. The two instructors I was picking between sound almost exactly like the two you have described. I was so stressed trying to pick one, I gave my uncle a call (who is on the PGA Tour) I told him everything, sent him the e-mails I had recieved and sent with each instructor and he called me back about a week later and told me to go with Shane, the first one. Which my Shane would be your Mel. He said that he seems more willing to work with you. He also had college connections and he thinks based on his attitude and open personality, you will have a better chance getting along with him, getting connections and everything else with him. He also had a good golf background. You already had a lesson with Mel and if your swing has already improved in one lesson, he is obviously the guy to go with. When you said that Dan had coached a girl for 3 years, who you played and beat... it instantely gave me the thought "there are many reasons that could be but the main one is the coach." You HAVE to feel confident in your coach. Once you feel confident in him, you have to put your effort in which is to practice, practice, practice. And since you are a freshman and #1 on varsity, I am assuming you practice a lot in the off-season. So you have that too. I mean the girl that he has been coaching might not be practicing, but then again he might not be a good coach for younger people. He may be great with adults that come in and just want a quick fix. But you don't want a quick fix, you want to play and you want to win. Mel sounds more like the guy that can easily work with kids and teenagers.
If you aren't quite sure about a coach, that should indicate a no. Just because you have to be totally confident in them... if you go into lessons and aren't sure, then you won't do well. If you don't feel comfortable with Dan, then thats an instant no, because you can't open up.. and talk and tell him want you want the end result to be.
E-mail me if you have any questions! Go to my profile and e-mail me from there :)

Good Luck!
