Upright Golf Swing Plane?

Posted by admin

People always tell me that my golf swing is very upright and that I should really try to "flatten" it out. I’ve tried to work on this at the driving range but it just does not feel comfortable at all and i can barely make contact with the ball. I am far from a goof golfer(I generally shoot in the high 90’s), but I’m just curious if having this type of swing plane will hurt my golf game and do i need to switch to a flatter swing plane? thanks

How to fight a golf slice?

Posted by admin

I’ve been having trouble wtih a push and push slice in my golf swing. I’ve been trying to go more inside out but still have problems coming accross my chest….but like many I have a problem pulling my arms accross my chest early thus end up going outside in? Will early release of the club allow my arms to more naturally and easily go from inside out? Havent had a chance to go back to the range since i thought of this? What are you thoughts? Focus on the inside out and hopefully the cllub will realease in time…or focus on the club release and this will promote the inside out plane? Im trying to break the swing down in parts so i can figure this thing out…thanks.
i just went to the range and took a look at my ball flight…I dont think I have a typical slice…more of a push…or the extreme opposite a pull hook…after some research…i dont think i have an outside in swing plane…i think on the downswing i am over the top and am cutting down and accross the ball…so that if my club face is closed ill pull hook it…or if it is open ends up being mostly a push and sometimes slice if the face is extremely open…does this sound right?
Thanks for the help guys…i just got back from the range…after thousands of balls hit at the range…its finally clicked…i didnt have an outside in plane…i was coming down to steep then cutting across or down on the ball then i would pull across my chest….so that if the face was closed i would pull or hook it…if the face was open i would slice or push it…anyhow…figured that if i start from the feet and just let my club fall naturally so that its more sweeping action i would get that coveted in out swing plane…after i made an adjustment to the offset ( i was better with my 7-4 iron…until i understood that the shorter irons had less offset) …i would say 7 out of my 10 balls i had solid contact…the other 3 were either face open or closed…its finally clicked!

Sounds like you’re swinging with hands and arms. Try starting the club back by turning your left hip, then start the downswing by turning your right hip. Light grip, let your arms be passive and loose while trying to keep the left reasonably straight.

You can feel the club whip through on the inside. Your torso is much stronger than your arms, and will hit the ball farther. It’s just more intuitive to hit with your arms, that’s why golf is so difficult to learn.

Aslo, by using hip action you’ll make a much better turn back and through, should hit the ball more consistently.

In this golf instruction video you’ll see one of the easiest ways to check your swing on your own and apply changes so that you can swing like your favorite pga pro. Set a camera up down your target line and hit several golf balls. Then review your golf swing on a television and compare your posture, swing plane, stance and tempo to other golf pros that you like. Use other videos or golf publications like golf digest to compare what you look like to what you should look like. Make adjustments and then hit more golf balls into the net. Once you feel like you look the way you should, then hit 100’s of golf balls into the net to groove your golf swing and build muscle memory so that you don’t have to think about what you are doing when you get to the golf course and you will be able to score better. You can tell a lot about how well you’re striking the golf ball by how the golf club feels in your hands at the time of impact and how the ball flies off the clubface. You can feel a solid hit or a not so solid miss-hit in your hands. A net is a very inexpensive way to learn to play golf well.

I am a right handed golfer. If my golf club is parallel with the ground at the top of my backswing and roughly perpindicular with my neck/spine, should my left wrist be sort of cupped (hinged backwards) or bent (hinged forward)? I’ve seen both but which is most common. I see a lot of players with bent wrists? it feels a bit wierd for me but looks like it keeps theclub on plane better for the pros.

Should be flat, but there are some VERY good players who have cupped wrist… if in doubt go see a good teaching Pro and get it sorted…

In golf, a one-plane swing is a swing in which the hands and arms move back and return on the same plane. Find out how a golfer can still be effective with a two-plane swing with help from a member of the PGA National Teaching Committee in this free video on golf swings.

Golf – sliding hips in back swing?

Posted by admin

I can’t stop sliding my hips away from the target in my backswing which results in my club be way off plane in my back swing (above my head), starts a reverse pivot and then I need to go over top on downswing which results in shank. I have tried numerous tips to turn instead of slide and I just can’t stop the slide. Does anybody have one swing thought that helps eliminate hip slide on the back swing?

I had a similar issue–the real problem is that your weight is transferring outside your back leg, or as I like to think:

"You are breaking your wall". Think of your back leg as a anchor for your golf swing. Your lower body should be quiet during your swing.

While thinking "don’t break my wall" I also think, "turn (my right) your left shoulder under chin" and these two thoughts have helped me drastically. From a 25 to 16 handicap.
